We are tracking a massive mutual aid effort currently underway in Buffalo. Reddit user u/PuddlesRex has fired up their 3D printers and is churning out emergency whistles at a rate of 1,000 per day. They currently have 1,500 units sitting in boxes, ready for immediate deployment to protests and neighborhood watches.
This is pure community defense. As we’ve discussed, low-tech auditory signaling (whistles) is critical when digital comms are compromised or for rapid alerts during raids.
The Ask: The maker needs distribution hubs. They aren’t looking for money; they are looking for counter space. If you are in the WNY area and own a business—a coffee shop, a bookstore, a bodega—and are willing to host a “Free Whistle” box, please reach out to them.
They have already reached out to local organizations like BIRD, but we need to widen the net to help them clear their stock and get these too the streets.
