In a staggering breach of journalistic ethics, local Savannah news affiliate WTOC aired an exclusive interview on February 26, 2026 claiming to speak with the grief stricken wife of Oscar Vasquez Lopez, the man charged with vehicular homicide in the crash that killed beloved Hesse K 8 teacher Dr. Linda Davis.
There is just one massive problem. The woman they interviewed is not his wife. She has absolutely no idea who he is.
The Broadcast Lie
WTOC anchors Mike Cihla and Dawn Baker proudly introduced the segment as an exclusive with Dr. Linda Davis family and the wife of the man charged with hitting and killing her. The piece cut to lead reporter Shea Schrader, who said she spoke at length with the woman via WhatsApp in Guatemala.
They painted a picture of a sorrowful wife pleading for mercy for her husband while sending prayers to the Davis family.

The woman on screen, identified as Noemi Lopez Cabrera de Vazquez, repeatedly states she does not know Oscar Vasquez Lopez or the woman in Savannah.

Noemi herself even complains in the WTOC piece about another local media outlet identifying a different woman in Savannah as the wife and says I do not know who she is.
