"That's why that lesbian b---h is dead."

New testimony reveal ICE agents said about Renee Good inside the transport van.

“That’s Why That Lesbian B---h Is Dead.”

New testimony revea hate speech and brutality used by federal agents against legal observers in Minneapolis.

'A beautiful light': Renee Good's family mourns her death amid push for ...

If you still believe that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is a professional law enforcement agency, you haven’t been listening to what they say when they think no one can hear them.

On Sunday, January 11, legal observers Patty O’Keefe and Brandon Sigüenza were doing what we always tell our community to do: they were watching. They were legally monitoring federal activity in Minneapolis, a city already reeling from the state-sanctioned murder of Renee Good just days prior.

They were not interfering. They were not “obstructing.” They were witnesses.

And for the crime of witnessing, they were hunted down, attacked, and tortured with the memory of a dead woman.

The Attack

According to testimony provided to the Heartland Signal and corroborated by reports from the Star Tribune and Associated Press, O’Keefe and Sigüenza were tracking an ICE convoy when agents aggressively cut them off.

The agents did not issue orders. They did not ask for identification. Instead, they deployed chemical irritants directly into the air vents of the observers’ vehicle—turning the car into a gas chamber.

Agents then smashed the driver’s side window, dragged the pair from the vehicle, and handcuffed them. But the physical violence was only the beginning.

The Slur

While being transported to the Whipple Federal Building—a site that has become a black box of civil rights violations in the Twin Cities—O’Keefe reports that the agents began to taunt her. They mocked her appearance. They belittled her.

And then, one agent made it clear exactly how they view the lives they take.

According to O’Keefe, the agent leaned in and said:

“You guys got to stop obstructing us. That’s why that lesbian b---h is dead.”

He was speaking of Renee Good, the 37-year-old poet and mother whom ICE agents had shot and killed in broad daylight on January 7. To this agent, Renee was not a citizen, a mother, or a human being. She was a slur. And her death was a punchline used to terrorize a witness.

Inside the Whipple Building

The horror continued inside the detention facility. O’Keefe described a scene of “visceral pain,” with detainees—mostly Hispanic men—wailing and screaming from their cells.

“And then you juxtapose that with the laughter we heard from the actual agents,” O’Keefe said in her testimony. “It was very surreal and kind of shocking.”

While Sigüenza was eventually offered a “deal” if he would snitch on protest organizers (which he refused), both were eventually released without charges—but not before being dumped back onto the street and reportedly tear-gassed again by agents operating in the area.

This Is a Pattern

This incident confirms what we have warned about for months. The cruelty is not a bug; it is the feature.

  • They gas families: Just this week, we reported on the Jackson family, whose infant stopped breathing after agents threw flashbangs under their car.

  • They kill citizens: Renee Good was shot in her own neighborhood.

  • They mock the dead: And now, we know they use the memories of their victims to taunt survivors.

We cannot let this slide into the news cycle’s abyss. We must remember Renee Good. We must protect observers like Patty and Brandon. And we must never stop watching.
