Tier 5: Home Security (Anti-Surveillance)
The Glossary: Key Terms
🔒 TIER 1: THE IRONCLAD (Zero Knowledge)
These companies don’t just “promise” not to share data. They build systems that make it technically impossible to do so.
PROTON (Mail/VPN)
Status: Non-Collaborator The Action: Swiss-based with zero contracts with ICE. Legally, they cannot hand over message content to US authorities—only metadata, and only if ordered by a Swiss court.
SIGNAL
Status: Non-Collaborator The Action: The “Data Void.” Encrypted messaging that holds no user data. They have famously fought subpoenas by proving they literally have nothing to give ICE.
DUCKDUCKGO
Status: Non-Collaborator The Action: The Anti-Dossier. Unlike Google, they do not track users or build profiles, preventing the creation of “digital dossiers” that law enforcement can subpoena.
✊ TIER 2: THE ACTIVISTS (Funding Resistance)
These companies actively spend money to fight the systems we are up against.
CREDO MOBILE
Status: Anti-ICE The Action: A carrier that functions like a political action committee (PAC). They explicitly fund progressive causes and actively campaign to shut down detention centers.
BEN & JERRY’S
Status: Anti-ICE The Action: One of the few corporate entities that publicly condemns ICE operations and supports protest movements to abolish the agency.
ONEIDA ESC GROUP
Status: Ended Support The Action: A Native American-owned firm that cancelled a $3.8 million ICE contract for engineering services after the Oneida Nation government condemned the partnership.
PRAIRIE BAND POTAWATOMI NATION
Status: Ended Support The Action: The tribe fully divested from a $29.9 million ICE detention contract, stating that caging humans “mirrors the harm and trauma once done to our people.”
🤖 TIER 3: ETHICAL AI (The Non-Collaborators)
Artificial Intelligence is the new weapon for border enforcement. These labs refuse to build it for them.
HUGGING FACE
Status: Open Source Shield The Action: While they host open models, they implement “Ethical Charters” for major projects (like BigScience) that explicitly prohibit the use of their mode mass surveillance or law enforcement profiling.
LAION
Status: Anti-Surveillance Data The Action: A non-profit building open datasets that has taken strict stances against using their data for facial recognition or biometric identification by state actors.
ANTHROPIC
Status: The Refusal The Action: In Jan 2026, they refused a Pentagon demand to strip safety guardrai their AI models, putting a $200 million contract at risk rather than allowing their tech to be used for autonomous weapons or domestic surveillance.
🚫 TIER 4: THE RETREAT (Forced to Quit)
They collaborated until we made it too expensive for them. Proof that pressure works.
CAPGEMINI
Status: Terminated The Action: In Feb 2026, this French tech giant sold its entire U.S. subsidiary because the backlash over a single ICE contract became a PR nightmare.
JIM PATTISON GROUP
Status: Cancelled The Action: A Canadian conglomerate that cancelled a property sale to ICE (intended for a detention center) after massive public pressure.
McKINSEY & COMPANY
Status: Ejected The Action: Halted consulting work with ICE only after a scandal revealed they advised the agency to cut spending on food and medical care for detainees.
🏠 TIER 5: HOME SECURITY (Anti-Surveillance)
Protect your home without feeding the police dragnet.
EUFY SECURITY (Anker)
Status: Local Storage The Action: Eufy cameras store footage locally on your device, not in the cloud. This means they cannot just hand over your video to police without a warrant because they don’t have it.
ABODE SECURITY
Status: Privacy-First The Action: Explicitly states they will not share data with law enforcement without a valid warrant or court order. They offer self-monitoring options that keep your data off police-accessible cloud servers.
SIMPLISAFE (Self-Monitoring)
Status: User Control The Action: While they have cooperation policies for monitored plans, their unmonitored hardware options allow you to use the system without a third-party watching your feed.
📚 GLOSSARY
Digital Dossier A collection of personal data (search history, location data, purchase records) built by tech companies like Google or Facebook. This data can be subpoenaed by ICE to track immigrants without a warrant.
Divestment The opposite of investment. It is the act of selling off assets or cancelling contracts for ethical, political, or financial reasons (e.g., The Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation divested from ICE).
Metadata “Data about data.” Even if a message is encrypted, metadata tel who you messaged, when you messaged them, and where you were when you hit send. (See: Proton, which minimizes this).
Zero Knowledge A security architecture where the service provider (like Signal) holds the encryption keys on the user’s device, meaning the company itself physically cannot read your data, even if the government forces them to try.
