Haven Watch

How to Be a Decent Human 101

DISCLAIMER: READ BEFORE YOU CLICK

Haven Watch is NOT yet a 501(c)(3) non-profit.

They are an urgent response group operating like a mutual aid fund.

  • Donations are NOT tax-deductible. You are giving a gift. You are not getting a write-off.

  • Do not confuse them with “Haven International” or other similarly named groups that are 501(c)(3)s. If you want your money to go to the people in the parking lot, use the links below.

While the Feds Pack Up, the Neighbors Are Still Waiting

Amazon has a doorbell. Haven Watch has a coat.

If you want to know what real community safety looks like, stop looking at the Ring camera on your porch and start looking at a frozen parking lot outside the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building in Minneapolis.

That is where Haven Watch lives.

While tech giants are busy trying to sell us “search parties” that double as surveillance dragnets, this group is doing the actual, unglamorous work of keeping human beings alive.

The Context: The Surge Is “Ending,” but the Mess Remains

Breaking news. As of today, February 12, 2026, “Border Czar” Tom Homan announced that Operation Metro Surge is winding down. But don’t let the press conference fool you. The federal agents might be packing their bags, but the people they processed, detained, and released are still standing there.

The machinery of deportation doesn’t just stop. It leaves a blast radius. And Haven Watch is the hazmat team cleaning it up with compassion.

The “Uber for Dignity”

Haven Watch (formerly Safe Havens) didn’t start with a venture capital round. It started in January 2026 when a teenager saw two gir on a curb by ICE in sub-zero temperatures. No coats. No phones. No way to get home.

He got them warm. His mom, Natalie Ehret, organized the rest.

Now, they run a logistical lifeline for the people the system tries to erase.

  • The Welcome Committee: When detainees are released (often still wearing the t-shirts they were arrested in), Haven Watch is there with the “Coat Avalanche.” This is a massive stockpile of winter gear donated by Minnesotans who refused to let their neighbors freeze.

  • Burner Phones: ICE loves to seize phones as “evidence.” Haven Watch hands out burners so people can make that one crucial call to say they are out and safe.

  • Impound Fees: When ICE snatches you out of your car, they tow it. When you get out, you owe hundreds in fees. Haven Watch pays them so you don’t lose your job on top of your freedom.

The Vibe: Cookies vs. Tear Gas

For weeks, the scene outside the Whipple building has been a study in contrasts. On one side, you had DHS agents deploying smoke and pepper spray against moms standing on a sidewalk. On the other side, you had Haven Watch volunteers handing out hand warmers, protein bars, and cookies.

They proved that you don’t need facial recognition to keep a community safe. You just need to give a damn.

How to Help (The Right Way)

They are currently moving toward non-profit status, but the need is now.

Amazon wants you to watch for the police. Haven Watch proves we are safer when we watch out for each other.
